House Painters in Clanton Park, Toronto
Clanton Park is a neighbourhood in Toronto, in the district of North York. You will hear it called Dublin Heights or Wilson Heights too, and the City files it as neighbourhood 33. The box is easy to draw: Sheppard Avenue West across the top, Bathurst Street down the east side, Highway 401 along the bottom, and the old Downsview Airport lands closing the west. Six neighbourhoods touch it: Bathurst Manor, Bedford Park-Nortown, Downsview, Englemount-Lawrence, Lansing-Westgate and Yorkdale-Glen Park.
The name predates the houses. William Duncan, an Irish linen merchant, farmed near Sheppard and Dufferin from 1827, and the village of Dublin grew from that crossroads. He built the one-room Dublin schoolhouse in 1872.
What you paint came later. The majority of the houses were built in the late 1950s and the 1960s, a mix of bungalows, split levels and custom builds. In the 1990s a large residential expansion filled former airport land between Wilson Heights Boulevard and Faywood Boulevard. The Balmoral subdivision at Faywood and Joel Swirsky Boulevards is newer again, stone and brick behind a stone pillar gateway on Faywood. What Painting a Clanton Park Home Involves
A late-1950s house is a different paint job than a 2015 condo. Worth knowing why before you collect quotes.
Start with lead, because it decides the prep. Health Canada is direct: a home built before 1960 was likely painted with lead-based paint. Some 1940s paint ran to 50% lead by dry weight, and Canada did not restrict the lead content of paints until 1976. Here that is not abstract. The census puts 33% of the 6,881 dwellings before 1960, roughly 2,270 homes, and 54% before 1981.
What matters is the dust, not the wall. Health Canada's line is that disturbing old lead-based paint can release high levels of leaded dust into the air, and it names encapsulation, sealing the old coat under a sound new one, as a good option. So on original stock we do not dry-sand and we keep a heat gun away from it. The room gets closed off, surfaces stay wet while we scrape, and a HEPA vacuum runs throughout.
Then there is the renovation seam, and there is a lot of it here. Listings describe infill homes with open-concept layouts and finished basements beside the original bungalows, side-splits and two-storey houses, many with a separate basement entrance or in-law suite. That leaves new drywall meeting original walls. We skim those joints flat and prime them, because a seam that gets rolled over telegraphs through the finish.
Last, the calendar. Paint needs a dry, mild stretch to cure, so we book most exterior work between late April and mid-October. See our interior painting and exterior painting.
Residential and Commercial Painting in Clanton Park
Clanton Park runs two housing markets on one postal grid. Single-detached houses are 37% of the stock against 24% across Toronto, and ground-related housing is 65.4% here against 55.7% citywide. That is the bungalow half, and most of our work here is exactly that: a whole-house interior, an exterior on a wide 1960s frontage, cabinets in a kitchen newer than the house around it.
The other half is vertical and much of it is new. Apartments of five storeys and over are 35% of dwellings, 46% of households rent, and there are 1,595 condo units. Seventeen percent of the stock went up between 2011 and 2016, more than double the citywide rate.
Most of that came from one place. In July 2015 City Council adopted the Tippett Road Area Regeneration Study, redesignating 12.6 hectares bounded by Wilson Heights Boulevard, Wilson Avenue, Champlain Boulevard, Highway 401 and William R. Allen Road. It had been light industrial land, a small park, a place of worship and the parking lots serving Wilson station. The plan allows six storeys, and twelve along Wilson Avenue, Wilson Heights Boulevard and William R. Allen Road. On the ground that is Tretti Condos at 30 Tretti Way, 13 storeys and 340 units, and 18 Tretti Way, a 16-storey rental with 176 apartments. The Tippett Park project brought more than 500 homes in all, and Milton Berger Park at 21 Monte Kwinter Court opened in the middle of it on 18 August 2025.
For a painter that means turnover. Suites between tenants or before a sale, common areas on the building's schedule, new units handed to owners who want the builder colour gone.
