House Painters in Mount Dennis, Toronto
Mount Dennis is neighbourhood 115 of the 158 neighbourhoods the City of Toronto tracks by name. It runs along Eglinton Avenue West between the Humber River and the Kitchener rail corridor, with the Black Creek valley on its east side, and it sits in the old York Township. This is the former City of York, not North York. It grew up around its factories. Kodak bought land at Eglinton and Weston Road in 1913 and ran Kodak Heights here until 2005, with about 3,000 people on the payroll in the 1970s. CCM and Willys Overland had plants nearby. The first big housing boom followed the First World War, once those employers arrived, and much of the stock is the modest homes workers and small builders put up themselves.

Mount Dennis is also mid-change, the biggest since Kodak left. GO Kitchener and UP Express trains started stopping here on 16 November 2025, and Line 5 Eglinton opened on 8 February 2026 with Mount Dennis as its western terminus. The station is at 3500 Eglinton Avenue West, between Weston Road and Black Creek Drive, built around Kodak Building 9, the 1939 employee building that was rolled 200 feet aside in 2016 and set back on a new foundation in 2017. The Eglinton Maintenance and Storage Facility took the rest of the Kodak lands.

Inside, it depends on the vintage. In the pre-1960 third of the housing stock you often find plaster instead of drywall, and plaster cracks along the same lines every winter, above the door frames and where the ceiling meets the wall. In the 1970s apartment stock and the 1990s infill it is drywall, and the job changes.
Then there is lead, and this is the part most quotes get wrong. Canada did not regulate lead in paint until 1976. So the safe line is not "before 1960". It is that any home built before 1980 has lead in the older layers, and anything from before 1960 can run as high as 30 to 50 percent pure lead. Exterior paint took even longer to regulate here, and coatings applied before 1990 can still test high. We work to that. No dry sanding and no heat gun, because both turn a stable surface into airborne dust or vapour.
